IT’S TIME TO SAY GOODBYE

After much thought and careful consideration, I’ve decided that Crackers Art & Design will close its doors on June 30th, 2017.

This decision has not been made lightly since this business has been a part of my life since 1998 (almost 20 years!). But the writing’s been on the wall for a long while and, if I’m honest, it hasn’t fulfilled me creatively for quite some time. Having been a graphic designer for 23 years I feel ready to shift gears and pour all of my energy into what I’m truly passionate about – writing and illustrating. My first novel for young adults will be published by Walker Books Australia in early 2018, and I look forward to growing my career as an author and hopefully as an illustrator too.

I appreciate the support and compliments I’ve received for my party printables over the last five years, and I’m so happy to be leaving on a high. For those of you who have ordered from me in the past (many of you multiple times) thank you so much for your patronage. And to those clients I completed graphic design projects for a number of years ago, I really appreciate the business you threw my way.

My blog will remain online for now to provide party inspiration, but my Etsy shop is closing on June 30th and I will no longer be offering party printables for sale. I will not be on-selling my business or any of the designs, most of which are very personal to me having originally been created for my two sons’ birthday parties. If you plan on ordering, these next few weeks will be your final opportunity. During these final weeks I am only selling the printables as they come in the shop – I will not be taking custom orders or quoting on special packages. https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/crackersart

If you’d like to follow my future creative endeavours, you can hear all about my writing career at Sarah Epstein Books and my illustration work at Sarah Epstein Creative. You can also find me on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/sarahepsteinbooks and https://www.instagram.com/sarahepsteinart .

So, it’s goodbye from Crackers Art & Design. It’s been a fun adventure! And now it’s time for new adventures to begin.

Cocktails and Karaoke 40th Birthday Party

crackersart cocktails & karaoke

We had an interesting time coming up with a theme for my hubby’s 40th birthday party. And by interesting I mean me making a lot of suggestions that were met by fairly unimpressed shrugs by the birthday boy in question. But when he mentioned ‘cocktails’ and I mentioned ‘karaoke’, we knew we had a match made in heaven. The retro cocktail lounge vibe was exactly what we wanted, with a sprinkling of mid-century aesthetic thrown in. And a few bright colours of course!

We had platters of sandwiches, sushi, and smoked salmon blinis — which we handed around while guests whipped up cocktails and perused the karaoke song list — as well as a buffet table with a mix of sweet and savoury nibbles.

The karaoke was as popular as the cocktail bar, with almost everyone belting out a tune or three by the end of the night (or, rather, the wee hours of the morning). Seriously good fun!

Professor Hugo’s 8th Birthday party – Science Theme

Crackers Art Science Birthday Party

I’m so pleased to show you all some photos from my son Hugo’s science-themed 8th birthday party that we held at the end of April. It turned out to be one of the most relaxed kids parties we’ve had (after all of the manic party prep, that is!) because we hired an entertainer from Fizzics Education who came out to dazzle the kids with experiments. It’s the first time we’ve ever hired a party entertainer, and I highly recommend it if you’re able to afford one. It really made for a stress-free party!

Harvey’s Arcade 6th Birthday Party

Crackers Art Arcade Birthday Party

We recently celebrated my son Harvey’s 6th birthday party, and I’m very happy to be able to share some photos of Harvey’s Arcade!

Harvey absolutely loves Pac-Man after Santa brought him an old-school games console for Christmas which you plug into the TV. And when we saw Wreck-it Ralph at the movies, he was delighted to see Pac-Man amongst the characters and became fascinated with the idea of amusement arcades and arcade games. We visited a local (modern) games arcade, and Harvey couldn’t believe some of the machines spat out tickets that he could then redeem for a prize. Bonus! So when I suggested we could create his own games arcade for his birthday in the middle of our lounge room, he just about fell over! 🙂

I started out by designing this invitation, which set the tone for a bit of retro gaming fun…

Vintage Racing Party

Crackers Art Vintage Racing Party

In August last year, I had the pleasure of creating some custom printables for a client to suit a vintage car racing theme. While my customer only needed a few items, I knew the theme would look fabulous across a complete printables range, so I set about creating one.

Both of my boys have already chosen their birthday party themes for this year, so I created this concept party table for the fun of it to show the printables in action.

Hope you like it!

All styling, printables, design, and photography by Crackers Art.

The full set of printables is available in my Etsy shop.
